Why an efficient HR department is so important

On Behalf of | Nov 9, 2022 | Employment Law

The structure and hierarchy of companies can be complex, particularly in larger organizations. Employees with different roles and contractual terms have to be managed, and this is where the Human Resources (HR) department comes in.

The HR department of your company should also be able to help you with queries that you have about your rights. Outlined below are some of the key reasons why an efficient HR department is so important.

Ensuring that you are paid fairly

California currently has a minimum wage of $14 per hour for smaller companies and $15 per hour for larger corporations. In 2023, the minimum wage is set to be $15.50 across the board. As an employee, you should never be paid below these amounts. In fact, you should receive the pay that has been agreed upon in your contract. An efficient HR department should be able to help you with any questions you have regarding your wages, overtime payments or anything else relating to your salary.

Dealing with grievances

Employment grievances come in various forms. Harassment and discrimination issues are some of the most common. The HR department in your company should be able to help you with things like this. They should be able to point out the anti-discrimination and harassment policies of your company. HR should also be able to conduct an impartial investigation and help to find a solution.

Unfortunately, internal employment procedures don’t always work out how they are supposed to. If you’ve been underpaid, harassed or faced any other issues at work, make sure you look into your legal options
